Tucked away amidst the cool blue-green valleys of the fertile coffee belt in Southern India is the massive Kalmane Estate, among the first coffee estates to be planted by Indians during the British Raj. In 1879, the rich soil of this estate gave birth to its first coffee plant. Today almost 144 years and four generations later Kalmane Estate is a sprawling plantation in Chikmagalur, Karnataka and grows uniquely flavoured, fine Arabica coffee intercropped with Black Pepper. Every day for over 80 years scores of coffee lovers in Italy and Europe have been taking delight in the light acidity, slight flavour and enriching aroma of our coffees.
At Kalmane Estate, expert gentle hands carefully pick the shade-grown beans, ensuring only the best are picked, without even slightly damaging the plants. So painstaking is our plucking that even the tiny honeybees buzzing around the buds are not harmed in any way.
The handpicked beans are processed in our state of the Art plantations where they are pulped and washed using Brazilian machines renowned for their remarkable human-like treatment. The processed beans are then sundried on barbecued bricks to preserve their natural flavour.
At Kalmane estate, all fermentation and drying procedures are carried out in accordance with internationally approved stimulation and moisture levels are maintained as per global standards. Kalmane Koffees takes great pride in sourcing only the highest quality coffee beans from its premium estates in Chikamagalur. With a focus on sustainable and ethical practices, our expert roasters carefully craft each batch in-house, creating a rich and flavorful blend that is unique to their brand.
